National innovation Office (NKFIH) – Hungary

The National Innovation Office (NKFIH) is the governmental body responsible for research, development and technological innovation in Hungary (Government decree 303/2010 (XII.23) under the direction of the Minister for National Economy).

NKFIH is responsible for:

science, technology and innovation policy development, launching national initiatives for its implementation;
science, technology and innovation policy related information, analysis, including the statistical databases on research, development and innovation programmes and activities, and research and development and infrastructure;
international and European cooperation in science, technology and innovation policies and programmes;
stimulating investments in field of research and development;
enhancing innovation capabilities and stimulating innovation activities of small and medium-sized enterprises, and the promotion of incubating young innovative enterprises;
stimulating the transfer of domestic research and development results to international markets;
supporting networking and research cooperation at national and international levels;
encouraging adaptive and non-technological innovation activities mainly in small and mediumsized enterprises.
NKFIH has actively participated in the process of building the European Research Area, and has been a partner in numerous ERA projects and coordination and support actions since FP6. In the ICT field, these include CISTRANA, COSINE, COSINE2, CEFIMS, and ARCADIA. NKFIH recently organised and/or supported several major European conferences addressing research areas of the FET Flagships, including FET 2011, Brain Research 2011, EuroNanoForum 2011, Future Internet Week 2011, ICT Proposers Day 2009 & 2011.
